The editors invite design scholars and practitioners to think critically about social justice, exclusion, and privilege, and imagine the journal as a forum that can foster rich and provocative conversations across power-differentiated communities, geographic distance, and disciplinary divides. We strongly encourage the submission of rigorously researched papers that show how design is deeply engaged with socio-political and cultural issues, and we encourage submissions about the scope of design, broadly defined, in regions marked by conditions of austerity, poverty, or under embargo, papers of maintenance and repair, and works on the invisible labor of design in domains of social reproduction. We also welcome scholarship from affiliated fields that \u2013 although perhaps not identifying directly with design discourse \u2013 investigate material culture, practices, and the science\/status of the artificial through lenses of indigenous epistemologies, intersectional analyses of power and science and technology studies, among others. As design increasingly extends its immaterial, conceptual, and strategic forms, we envisage\u00a0Design and Culture\u00a0as a platform where scholars and practitioners from a range of fields can question the ramparts of design practice, research, and discourse.
