The increasing trend in the production of solid wastes and policy regulations aiming to improve environmental, economic, and social sustainability of solid waste management require treatment plants with higher capacity and to implement more efficient treatment processes in order to reduce the final amount of landfilled wastes. Moreover, a significant change in the management of the valorization of some categories of solid wastes due to industrial and anthropological activities could reduce their amount and result in new industrial symbiosis forms and sustainable circular economy processes. The adoption of enabling technologies of Industry 4.0 could offer the opportunity to achieve these goals at reasonable costs and efforts.\u00a0The Special Issue aims to collect recent innovative research works in the field, from basic to applied research, as well as pilot industrial applications\/demo.
