Kamerlingh-Onnes in 1911 and ceramic superconductors (high temperature) by researchers J. Georg Bednorz and K. Alex Mueller at an IBM laboratory in Switzerland in 1987, there have been tremendous efforts put in understanding how superconductivity occurs, such as the Ginzburg-Landau and BSC theories and Little-Parks effect. An incredible amount of work has also been done on the implementation of low and high temperature superconductors: SQUID magnetometers, micro\/nano electronics, superconducting electromagnets used to build maglev trains, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear magnetic resonance devices, particle accelerators in nuclear reactors, RF and microwave filters, fault current limiters, transition edge sensors, the superconducting bolometers, the superconducting tunnel junction detectors, the kinetic inductance detector, and superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors, to name but a few.
