Performance-based design of buildings has developed in recent decades to answer the fundamental questions: (i) How will the structure perform under a specific earthquake? (ii) What is an acceptable performance? (iii) How long will the structure be out of usage? (iv) How much is the cost to restore a structure? To answer these questions, the engineers need advanced nonlinear response simulation techniques, structural modeling, performance evaluation, and expressions of the probability that a structure will experience damage corresponding to a specific demand which is expressed either as seismic intensity or structural deformation. Performance-based design has been incorporated in the new generation of seismic codes for the design of new structures or the rehabilitation of existing ones. However, many issues are still open concerning the simulation, analysis methods, damage assessment, as well as evaluation procedure. Hence, new research work is required. The aim of this Special Issue is to give the opportunity to scientists investigating the gaps in the existing performance-based design of buildings to publish their works and make PBD more accurate and feasible.
