The year 2020 is marked by the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic and the resulting global emergency. This crisis is typical of the Anthropocene era. It has specifically affected densely populated urban areas and cities characterized by high level of otherness in a more systematic and violent manner. This Special Issue is intended as a forum for advancing research and applying the most advanced geo-spatial concepts, applications, and technologies developed in order to assist and support governments and populations in their abilities to respond to Anthropocene crises (pandemics, climate change adaptation, food insecurity, population and refugee migrations, etc.), to move toward more inclusive and sustainable urban forms and models, and finally to improve urban resiliency. The expected outcomes will be a state-of-the-art of the most updated location-based urban developments and spatially enabled smart city initiatives.
